AVID CLASS OF 2025

What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognized program designed to prepare students for success in four-year colleges and universities. AVID students enroll in college preparatory classes, including Honors, AP and IB. AVID students also participate in extra-curricular activities such as, but not limited to, athletics, theater, art, band, dance, and agriculture.

    • Have the potential and motivation to qualify to attend a four-year university or college
    • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
    • Have the ability and desire to complete college preparatory/honors/AP coursework
    • Are willing to commit themselves to completing daily homework

    • To develop students' academic skills so they may enroll and succeed in the most rigorous college preparatory, honors, AP and IB classes
    • To improve students’ college readiness skills, such as note-taking, organization/time-management and reading/writing skills
    • To ensure students meet the eligibility requirements of four-year colleges and universities
    • To prepare students for SAT & ACT college entrance exams/AP exams
    • To increase students' college/career awareness
    • To assist students in the college application and FAFSA process
    • To provide students with knowledge of scholarships and financial aid opportunities for college
    • To provide students with personal mentoring

    • Actively participate in collaborative study groups with college tutors
    • Improve communication, writing, reading and inquiry skills
    • Work on character develop and student agency
    • Participate in college research & visits
    • Develop organizational/time management skills
    • Reinforce study/test taking skills
